Firebird

Kathy Tyers, writer of several science fiction books (including a few in the wider Star Wars universe) does a great job with her debut novel Firebird: an epic space opera that follows the trials and triumphs of Lady Firebird. Firebird is a member of the royal family of Netaia who gets wrapped up in a battle between her home planet and an enemy with powers unimagined. She becomes caught between two worlds, one she knows and one full of new possibilities. Tyers does a get job injecting realism into this tale of faith and sacrifice. I would recommend Firebird to anyone looking for a fun adventure full of romance, space battles, and questions of faith.
